its allied program meetings at Perth, Australia, January 30 - February 4, 2017

Conference Schedule

The integrated meetings of IOGOOS-13, IOP-13, SIBER-7 and IRF-7 will be held in conjunction with the first meeting of the IIOE-2 Steering Committee and a special Bio-Argo workshop between Monday 30 January and Saturday 4 February 2017.

Conference Sequence

Detailed agendas for each meeting/workshop will be formulated over the coming months and circulated to all participants prior. The following draft timetable provides an indication of the proposed sequencing of meetings and workshops over the 6 day conference period

Objective: To collaborate with the IO ocean observing community on the results of the AISRF Bio-Argo project and international developments towards a global Biogeochemical-Argo network in the context of the future development and operation of a Biogeochemical-Argo network as a component of IndOOS. Participants: Bio-Argo Australia and Indian research team, invited early career researchers and key experts from IO / Biogeochemical Argo observing community (invited participants from SIBER, IOP, IOGOOS, IRF).

Conference Venue

The conference will be held at The Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre (IOMRC) on the University of Western Australia's Crawley Campus (http://www.oceans.uwa.edu.au/collaborations/iomrc)). This is a new building under construction and anticipated to be completed in November 2016. Further details of lecture theatres / rooms to be used for the series of meetings and workshops will be provided closer to the date. Please refer to 'Perth & Surrounds' map in Attachment 1 for general location.

Please be advised that phone reception within the IOMRC building can be patchy and for urgent calls it is best to step outside of the building. This might not affect all phones or providers.

Registration Fee

The conference will involve a registration fee to help cover running costs. Details of the fee are as follows:

- Daily rate: $35 AUD pp/day

This is early notice to advise that you will be required to pay your registration fee prior to the commencement of the conference. Further details on how payment can be undertaken will be provided following your formal RSVP.

Accommodation

All accommodation arrangements are to be made individually by participants. No group bookings/rates have been obtained. The following accommodation options and costs (in AUD) are provided as a guide to the various types of accommodation available. You are strongly encouraged to choose where you wish to lodge and then make your own accommodation bookings as soon as possible.

Please note that no block booking holdings are possible. Rooms are not being held. Therefore, you are advised to book as soon as possible to avoid losing the opportunity for your preferred accommodation. The IOC PPO is not in a position to manage participant booking matters.

City & Surrounds:

There are numerous accommodation options in the Perth CBD area - all a short taxi/Uber ride to UWA. If you wish to stay in the city, you are strongly encouraged to choose which hotel you wish to stay at and then make your own accommodation bookings as soon as possible.

Transportation to and from the airport

Perth International Airport is approximately 20min drive from UWA. Participants are kindly requested to make their own transport arrangements between the airport and UWA or preferred hotel accommodation locations. Taxi's and Uber cars can be found outside of the international and domestic terminals. Please refer to 'Perth & Surrounds' map in Attachment 1 for the airports general location.

Wi-Fi

Free Wi-Fi will be available in all meeting and workshop rooms. The Wi-Fi username and password will be announced at the beginning of each meeting/workshop.

The availability of Wi-Fi at accommodation options (if known) is listed in section 4 above.

Lunch

Lunch and morning and afternoon teas will be provided on all conference days. The location for each will be announced at the beginning of each meeting/workshop. If you have any food restrictions (e.g. vegetarian, no beef/pork), please include details in your formal RSVP.

Cocktail Reception and Joint Conference Dinner

At this stage a cocktail reception (30 Jan 2017) and joint conference dinner (1 Feb 2017) are planned during the weeks schedule. An IIOE-2 dinner is tentatively proposed for 3 Feb 2017.

Please advise as soon as possible regarding your attendance of these events and dietary requirements or allergies.

Visa Requirements

Participants requiring an entry visa to Australia are strongly advised to apply for it with the Australian Embassy or Consulates in your country as soon as possible in order to secure the required entry visa prior to your departure.

Time Zone

Perth, Australia operates on Australian Western Standard Time (AWST) all year round. AWST is 8 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+8).

Electricity

Mains voltage in Australia is 230V 50Hz (compatible to Asia, Africa and Europe); however participants from Japan, USA and Canada (which use 100/120V 50/60Hz) may need to consider the need for a voltage converter.

Plug/wall sockets in Australia have two flat metal pins shaped like a "V" and some contain a third flat pin in the centre. Participants are recommended to bring appropriate Power Adapters to enable use of wall sockets.

Currency

Australia's national currency is the Australian dollar (AUD).

Weather

Perth has a Mediterranean-style climate, with generally warm and sunny weather year round. Perth's summer months are December to February, with January and February usually the hottest months. The weather during these months is usually fine and dry and rain at this time of year is unusual. Average summer day-time temperatures range from 27℃ - 30℃ and night time temperatures to a minimum of 15℃ at night.
