Formed on 2 December 2015 at the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in Goa, the idea of the network emerged in a session on "Recent Results from Early-Career Scientists in Indian Ocean Research" during the conference that celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Completion of the International Indian Ocean Expedition (IIOE). The motivation of the Early Career Scientists Network (ECSN) of IIOE-2 is to bring together the young scientists working on the Indian Ocean, to encourage exchange and participation, with overall all aim to enhance the understanding of the under-explored Indian Ocean. After an initial, informal, and self-driven phase, the network was formally adopted on 24 August 2018.
Objectives: Collaboration, Networking, Opportunities
- Facilitate ocean research and related fields for early career scientists
- Enhance scientific collaboration among early career researchers
- To organise meetings, workshops, training courses and other related events at regional and international levels
- Connect and collaborate with groups having complementary objectives
- Bridge the ECSN group with senior scientists and working groups under IIOE-2 framework
Who can be a member? Anyone "young" in an academic sense? - well technically Researchers working in the early stages of their careers (PhD + less than 10 years of active experience) doing research in any branch of ocean science but having active interest in the Indian Ocean.
