Call for research proposals
The major objective of the ongoing CTCZ programme of the Indian Climate Research Programme is to understand the mechanisms leading to space-time variation of the summer monsoon rainfall and embedded monsoon disturbances.
Important phenomena addressed are (i) links of monsoon variability with the convection over the surrounding oceans and (ii) intra-seasonal variation of the monsoon. Process studies are planned for (i) land surface-atmosphere interaction (ii) aerosols: role in the variability of the monsoon (iii) interaction between different scales of convection i.e. from cloud-scale through meso and synoptic scales to the planetary scales. More details about the CTCZ programme can be found at http://www.incois.gov.in/portal/datainfo/pdctcz.jsp.
The approach adopted involves field experiments over land and ocean designed to study specific phenomena or process studies , analysis of data from special ocean platforms, conventional and satellite data sets, and theoretical studies with models of varying complexity focussing on the CTCZ objectives.
Proposals are invited from interested scientists for funding for research on any of the foci of the CTCZ programme. A soft copy of the proposals(in the format given at :http://www.incois.gov.in/documents/FORMATS_FOR_SUBMISSION.doc) should reach Dr. H. R. Hatwar (e-mail:hrhatwar@gmail.com), Project Manager, CTCZ Project Office, CAOS, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore 560012 on or before 25 August 2012.
