Period of Project: 2017-
Brief description of the Project:
We are studying the equatorial subsurface undercurrent in the Indian Ocean (the Tareev Current). The program of research started in the early 1970s, but was interrupted due to economical reasons. The program resumed in 2017. According to the plans of the field works, the Russian research ship “Akademik Boris Petrov” is planning to occupy a hydrographic section across the equator along the 65º E meridian with CTD and LADCP measurements. This section will repeat the section occupied in 1974 from R/V “Vityaz”. This was a section with temperature and salinity measurements and moored measurements of currents [M.N. Koshlyakov, E.G. Morozov and V.G. Neiman, Historical findings of the Russian physical oceanographers in the Indian Ocean, Geoscience Letters 2016 3:17 DOI 10.1186/s40562-016-0051-6].
Region of study
Equatorial region of the Indian Ocean along the 65º E meridian.
