The Air-Sea Interactions in the Northern Indian Ocean Regional Initiative (ASIRI) project is an ONR-funded experiment designed to: 1) understand and quantify dynamical processes and boundary transports that control fresh and salt water exchanges between the Northern Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal, and the Southeast Arabian Seas (SEAS), with particular emphasis on the relative contributions of air-sea interaction, mesoscale, and submesoscale processes; and 2) examine the relative roles and responses to buoyancy and wind stress forcing using both in situ observations and with high-resolution numerical models of both the process and forecast-types. These scientific interests motivate international partner-ships with India."
